THE need for supplemental nutrition stems from our modern lifestyle and the way we consume food. Whereas 200 years ago most people lived on the land and picked fresh ripe food as it was required, the modern food industries are multibillion dollar concerns designed to generate massive profits from bulk distribution in the global food chain. Soil is often nutrient deficient, the crops themselves laden with chemicals and pesticides, then they are harvested when it suits the supply chain rather than when the crop is naturally ripe.
Typically crops harvested are processed, stripped of natural fibers and warehoused. Then they are snap frozen or gassed treated, sent half way around the world before arriving in the local market. By the time we bake, broil, fry or microwave our foods any enzymatic value is eliminated such that most foods we eat are not only deficient in key micronutrients, they are often little more than empty calories.
Many “fresh” foods are deficient in nutrients we need for physical wellbeing and optimal health such as vitamins, minerals, trace elements, proteins, herbs, enzymes and essential fats .In addition to these deficiencies most diets have an excess of refined sugars, salt , saturated fats, convenience carbohydrates ,additives , chemicals , residual pesticides and other harmful substances.
The combined effect of these excesses and deficiencies has led to a propensity in industrialized nations of diseases that didn’t exist when we lived on the land. Problems such as fatigue, digestive problems, headaches, allergies, diabetes, and more advanced long term problems such obesity, cancer, heart disease and stroke. Research indicates that many of these diseases have a basis is poor nutrition over a prolonged period of time.
